Flooding in TodmordenRiver levels in Todmorden rose rapidly, the Environment Agency said.

Several properties in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, have been hit by flash floods.

A flood alert for the River Calder and its tributaries from Todmorden to Brighouse was issued by the Environment Agency (EA) at about 17:45 BST.

River levels had risen rapidly during what residents described as a "torrential" downpour, the Environment Agency said.

The fire brigade received calls from at least 15 flooded properties.

Fire crews are pumping out some of the properties.

Flood warning sirens have been sounded in Todmorden and nearby Walsden, the Environment Agency said.

While levels have peaked at Walsden, further storms were expected later on Monday evening, the agency added.

Police have warned drivers to stay away from Halifax Road in Todmorden as flooding has made it impassable.
